TOM HARRIS FT. RACHAEL COHEN
Since graduating from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s BMus Jazz course in 2018, Tom has worked extensively with musicians from across the UK, presently pursuing three separate projects in partnership with a selection of them: Trampette, Shrews and Ulita, the latter a multi-disciplinary theatre project with vocalist, composer and NQ Jazz alumnus, Nishla Smith, and visual artist Luca Shaw.
Fellow Conservatoire graduate, Rachael, has been playing the saxophone since she was nine, enrolling in the acclaimed City of Edinburgh Music School before scoring the Jazz Studies scholarship that saw her briefly resettle in Brum, where she assiduously sought out opportunities to study with the artists that she most admired (at least when she wasn’t being taught by her similarly talented tutors).
Rachael went on make history as the first woman signed to Whirlwind Recordings and released her debut to rave reviews, though she’s always retained the collaborative spirit that renders performances such as this one – for which they’ll be joined by Kai Chareunsy on drums – so full of compelling potential.
