Rory Ingham-James Davison Sextet play Art Blakey

This is an exciting new band, also known as ‘Wakey Blakey’, led jointly by Rory Ingham and James Davison celebrating the music of the legendary Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. Their focus is specifically on the early 1960s Riverside and Blue Note recordings by the lesser-known sextet line up exemplified by the stellar front-line of Freddie Hubbard, Curtis Fuller and Wayne Shorter plus the powerhouse of pianist Cedar Walton. Featuring some of finest talent on the British Jazz scene this project demonstrates hard bop with a frighteningly fresh feel. Expect music that is wildly high-energy and unbelievably swinging.
